Five Uses for Oranges That Might Surprise You

Oranges may be good sources of vitamin C, but you’d be surprised to find out that after you’re done eating or drinking them, you can still use what’s left for other purposes. So, chuck lots of oranges in your nally bin and see what other uses oranges are good for.

For getting rid of odours in your trash can

When you’re done peeling your oranges, throw the skin in your smelly trash can and after 15 to 20 minutes, it will smell like oranges, too. That’s because citrus fruits have terpenes, which can emit a strong but good smell that can overpower any foul odour, even the stench of your trash.

For freshening up the smell in your fridge

You can also use oranges to get rid of foul smells in your fridge. Just cut an orange in half and scoop out the pulp. After that, put some salt in the rind and leave it inside the refrigerator. After a few hours, all of the foul smells in your fridge will be gone and it replaced with a fresh smell.

For taking care of your skin

You can also use these fruits as a skin remedy. All you need is some raw sugar to go with your oranges and you’re ready to exfoliate your skin. What you should do is cut the oranges and dip one piece into the raw sugar. Use that orange bit and gently scrub your skin with it.

According to skin experts, the raw sugar will get rid of your dead skin, while the juice and oil from the orange will moisturize your skin. If you have some extra oranges in your kitchen, use them as your skin remedy. It’s less expensive and just as effective as your other skin care products.

For loosening up grime

Grime can really stick to your floors and tables. Rather than scrubbing it off rigorously, you can make it easier for yourself by applying some of the juice and oils of oranges on the grime. This is because the natural oils in your oranges are effective in loosening up the grime.

When you’ve squeezed some of the juices and oils on the grimy spots of your floor, wait for a few minutes and then wipe it off. You’ll see that the grime will come off more easily.

For potpourri

The skin of the oranges is what smells good and you can use them as your natural air freshener. What you can do is when you’ve peeled the skin from the oranges, put them in an oven. Bake the peels for 30 minutes at 200 degrees Fahrenheit.

Once you’re done drying up the peels, grind them properly and place them in a small bowl. Then, place the bowl in your living room or bedroom to keep those rooms smelling fresh. You can even add other ingredients like a cinnamon powder to give off a different smell that’s not fruity.

So you see, oranges aren’t just good for getting your daily dose of vitamin C. These fruits are quite versatile, so even after you’re done eating your oranges, none of what’s left will go to waste.
